Cesar Manrique's Mirador del Rio: Unforgettable View of La Graciosa Island on e-bike.

FIND OUT ABOUT MIRADOR DEL RIO

Perched 500 meters above a majestic cliff, El Mirador del Río offers an unparalleled vantage point, treating visitors to a breathtaking panoramic view of Lanzarote and the mesmerizing Chinijo Archipelago.

Initially unveiled in the 1970s, this architectural masterpiece by César Manrique stands as a testament to the seamless integration of human artistry with the natural environment. It epitomizes the harmonious fusion of art and nature that Manrique so brilliantly championed.

As you approach the entrance, you'll be greeted by a remarkable sculpture crafted by Manrique, depicting a bird and a fish. Symbolizing the elements of water and air, they serve as a metaphor for the surrounding environment's abundant presence.

Upon entering, you'll be captivated by the sight of two magnificent vaulted windows. These windows, conceived by Manrique, serve as the eyes of the viewpoint, providing an extraordinary panoramic vista.

Behind this captivating scene, the mountains of Montaña Clara, Roque del Oeste, and Alegranza come into view. Together with Roque del Este, they form the remarkable Chinijo Archipelago—a collection of islands boasting unique volcanic landscapes and hosting Europe's largest marine reserve.

Inside El Mirador, you'll encounter two magnificent sculptures by Manrique and other distinctive artistic elements that bear the artist's signature style. Take a moment to climb the spiral staircase and soak in the panoramic vistas from the remarkable upper terrace. Before you leave, be sure to visit the bar-café area and peruse the souvenir store for a cherished memento of your visit.

The construction of El Mirador del Río spanned two years, with the collaboration of Eduardo Cáceres and Jesús Soto. It involved meticulous excavation followed by the expert use of volcanic stone, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings while honoring the landscape characteristics that define Manrique's visionary ethos.

Discover the extraordinary beauty of El Mirador del Río—a testament to the powerful connection between art, nature, and the boundless wonders of Lanzarote.
